For years I with my youth would pass by these communities that run the side of the main highway about 1 ½ hours away from Tegucigalpa. The top photo shows the type of homes that these people live in. All these homes do not have electricity, appliances, bathrooms, beds, and decent homes to keep thieves or gangs out. The gangs are neighbors looking to steal their children. These people are farmers looking for a place to live and just survive. Jose one of our youth that is 15 cried Tuesday night during our Bible study saying, “there is so much need in my country and I thought I was poor until I realized I’m with my outlook and attitude on life. Most he said came happy, praising the Lord for one shirt to add to their collection in making it 2 shirts.” All of us worked hours serving in the hot sun well over 500 people. Many of these people went straight to the Bibles and didn’t want anything else. They never owned the word of God and they didn’t care for the clothes or soap that was being handed out. Others would stand and listen to teachings by our older youth and participated in talking about the Lord. One man came with his young family and he alone received a pair of shoes that he quickly put on, pair of pants, and 2 shirts. I walked to him and said sir would you like a belt and handkerchief. He didn’t move but only stared to the ground and at his children with a hand full of vitamins, crayons, coloring books, socks and clothes. He acted like he was in shock. I approached him and he looked at me and said, “all these blessings!” We treated the boys to lunch and to recoup from the hot sun. I said do you want to hit another small community and they said yes! As you can see in the last photo we just stopped on the edge of the road and people came out of their homes like if it was safe or not, or was there a catch. God only knows what the future will be for us in this community. It is something we are praying for.

We just wanted to show more photos so you can have an idea what it was like and to be able to reflect on what might be going on in the minds of these people and our youth. Like I asked our youth; “What is sacrifice in the eyes of the world and in the eyes of God?” Who is poor? Us or them? Are we taking action or just watching? We told them this is the mission field.
