Mission Team #1 – Apr 2005

Mission Trip April 2005
Repairs to Escuela de Venezuela in Rincon Community, Tegucigalpa

A 10 person team (7 adults and 3 teens) stepped out in faith last spring and helped put a new roof on a school building in Tegucigalpa. God picked the team. God picked the project and God wove a group of people together into a wonderful fabric. With the help of parents and people from the neighborhood, Escuela de Venezuela got one classroom building fixed, the bathrooms repainted, new basketball backboards, a lot of school supplies and a whole bunch of new friends!

Putting on a new tin roof. Learning new skills. The roof was just over 25 years old and the material had deteriorated and there were numerous leaks. The school needed a lot of repair, government money was not available and it was scheduled to be closed down – a fact that we DID NOT know until 2006.

When we removed the old roof we discovered that the rafters were inadequate for the new tin roof that we were going to put down, so we had to scramble around and add that to our project plans very quickly.

We also discovered that the screens in the windows were no longer good and we put in new screen in all the classrooms. Dengue fever is a problem in Teguc and we hoped to at least remove that problem from the classrooms, as they are used at night for youth group activities such as movie night and bible study.
